AED Ready monitoring vs 4g/wifi AEDs
I often get asked, why would I choose a plan with remote monitoring over just buying a 4g/wifi enabled AED?
AED Ready’s remote monitoring hardware with our RemoteReady plans are a far superior solution than DIY 4g/wifi enabled AEDs. I’ll explain why.
AED Ready’s remote monitoring hardware takes a photo of the active status indicator (the green flashing light), and then forwards that image to an online server. Evidence that there is a green light indicates 2 things: that the AED is present in the cabinet, and that the AED is rescue-ready. 4g or wifi enabled AEDs can report back to a server that they are good to go, but that doesn’t mean they are physically located in your cabinet! A unit reporting that it is ready could be in a nearby thief’s home - you won’t know.
AED Ready’s hardware also listens for the cabinet door opening and sends an immediate alert to our system. This gives AED Ready reason to believe the unit may have been used clinically, or potentially stolen. A ‘smart’ AED does not have this functionality.
‘But some smart AEDs have geolocating and geofencing!’ - sure, some do. These units however use cellular technology to achieve this, not true GPS. The result? Inaccurate location reports that are not precise enough to ever hope to successfully retrieve a stolen unit. If you are aware of an AED that uses true GPS technology, please let me know!
Wifi connection. Yikes - having to seek IT approval and config? Do you really want to be reconnecting your device when the connection drops out? Every time the wifi SSID or password changes? Who will be responsible for identifying and then fixing these IT problems?
DIY 4g/wifi fleet management requires someone to monitor the system. What happens when your staff member goes on leave? Is that person in a position to remedy any AED specific problems as soon as they present? Does that person have the expertise to diagnose and fix problems? Will that person have a functional spare AED to maintain site coverage?
4g/wifi AEDs use significantly more battery power than our systems. Those batteries ain’t cheap! Expect to pay around $400 for replacement batteries + time to purchase and install. That AED battery power is critical for saving lives! Google ‘flat AED lawsuits’ to guarantee the inability to sleep at night!
For the aforementioned reasons, I’m certain than AED Ready’s method of remote monitoring is the most reliable, safe, and robust.
