Elliot AED - The game changer?

The HeartHero Elliot AED: Bringing Hospital-Level Defibs Into Everyday Life

As a working paramedic, I’ve responded to many cardiac arrests where there was no AED nearby.  This, sadly, greatly reduces the chances of surviving a cardiac arrest. Sudden cardiac arrest cannot be planned for - it happens in lounge rooms, workplaces, caravans and on the side of the road. Having an AED within arm’s reach can literally be the difference between life and death.

That’s why I’m excited about the HeartHero Elliot AED. It delivers lifesaving shocks, but in a device that’s genuinely small, light, and easy for ordinary people to use.

Why Portability Is a Game Changer

Most traditional AEDs are fantastic clinically, but they’re bulky and usually fixed to a wall in a cabinet. In real life, that means they’re often not where you need them when someone collapses.

The Elliot changes that. It weighs around 0.6–0.68 kg and measures roughly 16 cm x 15.5 cm x 4.3 cm, with an integrated carry handle. In practical terms, it actually fits in a small bag, vehicle kit, caravan cupboard or on a shelf at home – and it’s light enough that you’re far more likely to take it with you.  Think golfing, boating, 4x4 – wherever you go, Elliot goes.

Built for Real People, Not Just Clinicians

HeartHero designed Elliot with the average person in mind: no medical training required. When you activate it (by pressing the power button or pulling the red handle), the device talks you through exactly what to do with clear voice prompts and simple visual icons – pad placement, rhythm analysis, shock delivery and CPR.

It delivers 150 joules for adults and 50 joules in child mode using a modern biphasic waveform, in short, it packs a life-saving punch. The pads are pre-connected and stored in a sealed cartridge, so you’re not fumbling with cables under pressure.

Tough, Connected and Ready to Go

A portable AED needs to survive real-world conditions, not just live in an air‑conditioned office. Elliot is dustproof and waterproof (up to IP66–IP67 depending on configuration) and operates in temperatures from about -20°C to 50°C, making it suitable for vehicles, outdoor settings and harsh environments.

It uses readily available CR123A lithium batteries instead of proprietary packs, and the electrode pads have a shelf life of up to around five years, which helps keep ongoing costs realistic for families and community groups. Through Bluetooth and cellular connectivity, the HeartHero app lets you monitor battery status, pad expiry and self‑test results remotely, with alerts if something needs attention.

Why I Recommend It for Home and Personal Use

Around 80% of cardiac arrests happen at home, yet AEDs have traditionally been seen as “clinical” equipment rather than household safety gear. With its compact size, simple guided operation and remote monitoring, the HeartHero Elliot makes it far more realistic for families, small businesses, clubs and travellers to keep a defib close by – on the kitchen shelf, in the work ute, the caravan or the team kit bag.

From my perspective as a paramedic, the combination of portability, usability and modern connectivity is what makes Elliot a genuine game changer. You’re putting life-saving defibrillation into everyday spaces, and giving ordinary people a real chance to act in those critical first minutes before an ambulance arrives.
